Meetings
The Loess Hills Audubon Society meets at the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center, 4500 Sioux River Road on the first Thursday of the month during the months of September through May at 7:00 PM.
Each meeting features a quality program on a variety of natural history subjects.
The public is invited and welcome to attend these meetings.
Cartoonist and Conservationist Jay Norwood "Ding" Darling by Matt Anderson

Matt Anderson from the Sioux City Public Museum will present a program about cartoonist and conservationist J.N. “Ding” Darling (October 21, 1876 – February 12, 1962). Darling developed an early appreciation for nature and wildlife after his family moved to Sioux City in 1886. In 1900 he became a reporter for the Sioux City Journal before accepting newspaper-related positions in Des Moines and New York City. He received two Pulitzer Prizes for editorial cartoons. Darling was an important figure in the 20th century conservation movement and founded the National Wildlife Federation.
Ding Darling and Matt Anderson were featured on KTIV’s Hometown History.
LHAS Board Meeting begins at 6:00 PM with Matt’s program beginning at 7:00 PM.

The Loess Hills Audubon Society exists to educate individuals and the public to enjoy and promote birding, to support ornithology and to be an advocate for wild areas and environmental issues. The Loess Hills Audubon Society is a chapter of the National Audubon Society.
Silent Auction and Chili Social

Twice the action in one location!
First Unitarian Church, 2508 Jackson St, Sioux City IA
Plan now to attend and enjoy your choice of over a dozen chilis and bid on the auction items.
The usual chili fixin’s will be provided, as well as desserts and beverages (including beer and wine!). All in exchange for a freewill donation and a smile! This is Sierra Club’s only fundraiser!

Can’t stay long? Sierra Club will have containers available so you can take your chili to go, or bring your own (suggested additional donation of $2 each).
The chilis will be served while quantities last from 4:00 to 6:30 PM in the church basement, but our doors will open at 3:30 PM.
While upstairs, learn more about the Loess Hills Audubon Society and bid on the great finds offered in their silent auction until 6:00 PM. There may be something you can't live without and you'll support a good cause!

There are three handicap parking spots available (two on Jackson Street / one just outside the alley door). A volunteer will be on hand to operate the lift for those who would rather not use the steps.
This is Sierra Club's only fundraiser. Donations from the door, beverage table, and the to-go options support Northwest Iowa Group of Sierra Club's conservation and outreach efforts. Cash and checks are preferred, but Sierra Club can process cards for a fee.
Silent Auction items are cash or check only. Loess Hills Audubon cannot process credit/debt cards at this time.
We'll keep our fingers crossed, but in case of bad weather, our alternate date is Saturday, February 1, times remain the same. If we decide to postpone, we'll let you know as far in advance as we can.
